Description

Tropical Fantasy for Solo Flute.

ARA is a concert piece for solo flute inspired by the flamboyant and expressive
energy of the macaw. The musical material of the work originates in the bird’s characteristic call, whose inflections
have shaped the compositional gesture.
The three letters of its name also serve as a generative element through the motif A–D–A, a structural cell that is
continuously transformed throughout the musical discourse.
With a resolutely virtuosic writing style, ARA showcases the flute’s wide range of technical and expressive resources,
including the use of extended techniques. Through a growing rhythmic energy and increasingly dance-like gestures, the work evokes a macaw whose radiant vitality seems to gradually surrender to the irresistible movement of a samba.
